In General Discussion
Based on the animated series The Last Kids on Earth – which itself is based on a book series – The Last Kids on Earth and the Staff of Doom has some things going for it. It features some members of the original voice cast, for example, making it instantly more enjoyable for fans of the series. Its big enemy designs are also rather faithful to the series, and offer up challenging combat encounters. Whilst the game depicts killing zombies and monsters, there’s no blood, they drop slices of pizza in place of health potions and the story is kept light-hearted and upbeat, with the kids making jokes and using humour throughout their experience. The cartoony aesthetic and isometric view helped to keep the combat at arm’s length. The Last Kids on Earth novels, by author Max Brallier and illustrator Douglas Holgate, date back to 2015 and there are now seven books in the series. The first three books have been adapted to Netflix as tv series’ and now having played the game, I will give them a watch in the coming weeks. Interestingly, there has been a new interactive episode released recently called The Last Kids on Earth Happy Apocalypse to You. Driven by text based dialogue with comic-like animated strips serving as cutscenes narrated by Jack, the story is full of humour, action and plan-thwarting monsters as the kids race to prevent Malondre from obtaining the powerful Staff of Doom. As a zombie and monster experience aimed at a younger audience The Last Kids on Earth and the Staff of Doom does a wonderful job of keeping its story light, funny and simple to understand while remaining enjoyable for older players with its simplistic charm. One definite highlight of The Last Kids on Earth and the Staff of Doom, though, is its integrated co-op play. Up to four players can join in on the same console, each taking control of one of the main characters. It makes for more frenetic gameplay, and it’s obviously a great option for kids who enjoy playing together with their siblings and friends. The overall difficulty of the game is decent, with some of the boss fights being slightly challenging for me. Occasionally I would get swarmed by zombies, and while you can dodge away, your stamina is also used for heavy attacks. Using your grenade and dodge abilities are the best tactics, however once you get to district 3, you can start recruiting allies to summon and help you temporarily. There’s canine monster Rover, horned ogre Biggun, Skaelka the warrior, and the sword-wielding sorcerer Bardle. These allies can be summoned when their summon bar has been filled by defeating enemies. You can also upgrade your allies’ attacks, damage radius, speed and more. https://www.z2u.com/the-last-kids-on-earth-and-the-staff-of-doom/accounts-5-17089 is a professional online gold seller who has over fifteen years’ service experience.
